- You've got it right. The audio stuff is actually passed down to the
- motherboard by installing the modem in a so-called "feature slot" on
- the backplane - this slot is slightly different from a standard ISA slot
- in that the 16-bit section has some different wiring that mates up with
- special connectors on the modem to pass down the audio. The modem itself
- will work fine in a regular ISA slot, minus audio, but a standard modem
- will not provide the same functionality in the feature slot. There _is_
- a 28.8kbps version of this modem that is used in other Presarios that
- can be substituted, but I'm not sure if it's available as a separate
- option.
